The
Town of Carefree is just a short 20 minute drive north from the bustle
of downtown Scottsdale. With an elevation of over 2500 feet, some
1500+ feet higher than downtown Phoenix, Carefree provides an atmosphere
of clear, dry, cooler air that makes outdoor activities year round
pastimes possible. Carefree’s natural habitat has been
integrated into a well planned residential community of about 2500 to
3000 residents. The community itself was founded by K.T.
Palmer and Tom Darlington. Starting in the early 50’s by
acquiring a 400 acre goat farm and later gradually buying up another
2000 acres, the first building sites became available in 1959.
Originally designed as a master planned community, Carefree is built
around the concept of a serene up scale retirement lifestyle.
The construction in the 1970’s of the 5 Star Boulders Resort Complex
and the newly renovated Carefree Inn (Carefree Conference Resorts) have
given this town an unique exclusivity that makes it a true destination
point for world travelers. 
 There are golf, tennis, jeep tours, as well as excellent hiking and mountain bike trails. Many fine shops and restaurants offer a wide selection of arts and crafts, leather goods jewelry, etc. The town boundaries are small therefore the number of homes on the market at any given time usually number only 100 to 125. Prices start at just under $100,000 for a modest condominium to $300,000 and up for a 2500 SF. single family residence. Home sites start at about $100,000. to over $1 million for a choice hillside or mountain top view lot. |
